Al Barakah Centre’s Main Purpose is to Support New and Diverse Communities

The strong 40+ volunteer team is determined to support families with social needs, parents with guided support, youth with career development, children with cultural education, and overall helping to integrate this new community with the Australian way of life.

Claymore: Broadening Horizons Within the Campbelltown LGA

Claymore is evolving into a vibrant, mixed-tenure community within the Campbelltown Local Government Area (LGA), with exciting opportunities to broaden its horizons and create a more inclusive and thriving environment.

Key Highlights of the Transformation

New Housing Developments

Plans include 1,610 new homes spanning private, social and housing for older residents - laying the foundation for a renewed and flourishing community.

Demographic Shifts

The area is experiencing notable changes, including:

  • An Increase in Families with Children: Enriching the community’s vibrancy and strengthening the demand for family-focused services.
  • A Rise in Migrant Families: Many arrive without close family networks, emphasising the need for culturally sensitive support systems.
  • Faith-Based Diversity: With up to 45% of new residents identifying with the Islamic faith, Claymore is becoming a beacon of multicultural growth.

Land Ownership and Development Opportunities

Most vacant land and community premises are owned by the Government or Landcom, offering significant potential for developing essential facilities and shared spaces for all residents.

Background

Since the 1970s, Claymore has faced a series of socio-economic challenges that have left the community in a difficult cycle of poverty and hardship. The area’s physical isolation, limited access to community facilities and a combination of high unemployment, crime rates and welfare dependency have significantly impacted residents’ quality of life.

Key Community Challenges

Strain on Facilities and Open Spaces

Claymore’s population has more than doubled, yet there has been no proportional increase in essential amenities such as community facilities, playgrounds or open green spaces.

Evolving Diversity, Limited Support

The area has experienced a significant increase in cultural diversity among its residents, but there remains a lack of tailored programs and support systems to foster inclusion and connection.

Challenges for New Migrant Families

Many new migrant families arrive without local family or social support networks. These families often face cultural adjustment barriers and require greater access to mental health and community services to help them thrive.

Assalamualikum . Would you consider taking online q on the relevant topics !! Jazakallah

Difference between poor and needy: poor is someone who does not have the means to fulfil his basic needs. Needy is someone who needs that extra (balance) to fulfil his needs.

Excellent talk, jazakallah Kheir
